did you ever deal with the vats system before? I have a diagram somewhere how to bypass it ill see if i can find it for you. I put a remote starter on my 92 TA and my 93 I had to bypass it on both of those.

i've done a few of them already, they're really not that bad. i can probably help you with it.
I actually need to swap the one on my jeep out - the remote start i installed a couple months ago is a piece of shit and stopped working after a couple months, so i got a different one for it. might be today's project actually.
and the vats key thing looks like a blast

The vats isnt too bad but be careful ive hear a few people have trouble with ignition switches after lol....

if you dont mind disableing the vats all together you can just use a resistor and forget about the wiring of the relay, thats good in a way since Ive seen a lot of ignition switch sensors go bad the car dont start when you go to use the key, only bad thing is it does take a little more for someone to steal your car if you have it se t up right.

you still need to check the resistance of the key with an ohm meter, then you just get a resistor the same as the key, look for an orange wire coming out of the bottom of the steering column theres a black connector a couple inches from where the wires come out the bottom, you just dissconnect that plug and put the resistor in the end that goes into the wire harness. if you trust your self its a good way, but the wire have to be striped back and everything sodered to make sure you dont have problems. same as everything else in a romote start, dont just tape stuff of use those cheep A$$ butt connectors soder everything, it makes for a lot nicer install and your not going to have bad connections down the road. also when sodering on a car with an air bag a butane iron is a must an electrical one can send a current into the computer and set the air bags off. very uncommon like 1 in a 1000000 but not worth the chance of setting them off.

hmmm nice excuse to break out the iron and solder...its an electric one though...hmmm...

well, alex aka TheWraith and installed the bitch today. turns out, there was a aftermarket remote starter/alarm in there already, and i never got the key fob for it. so, made wiring easier for us! everything was convienantly all already spliced in. so...now my car starts. but i have to leave the key in for now, since we didnt bypass the VATS system yet, we'll tackle that another saturday evening. if anyone needs resisters, i bought a 12$ pack of like a gazillion of them in various ohms, so there at alex's house...ill give ya what ya need...2$ a pop maybe?

liz the remote starts i bought for my grandmother's car and my jeep came with a thing to do vats - it's actually a little switchbox that can do variable resistance. i didn't need the one in my jeep so you can have it if you want it. although it's going to be a while before i want to touch one of those things again. yesterday i did liz's, today my brother and i did my grandmother's 03 buick century (it was our xmas present for her), and then today i pulled out the pos ReadyRemote brand one in my jeep and swapped in the bulldog one i got.
for anyone who is looking to do one, do not get the readyremote/designtech international/directed electronics garbage. i got it at advance auto. i made it a couple months with mine before i scrapped it. at best case scenario you'd have to hit the button 6-10 times to get it to start because the remotes and/or the antenna were shit. and that's only the best of it. it was just a piece of shit all around.
the second one i got was a bulldog security brand one from walmart. i now have worked with that same kit in 4 different vehicles and they all seem to work extremely well. the first kit was done by my brother over a year ago and hasn't had any real issues.
which by the way liz, yours is the bulldog security brand one. i know the box said something different, but it was the exact same kit i installed in the jeep and the buick today. same instruction booklet, same control box, etc. the wiring harness was slightly different but it was definitely just a rebadged deal. although mine came with the vats shit in the box :punch: figures
so if you want to we can either return that resistor thing and get your money back or you can sell them or something. I looked and you can make 5 full kits of resistors for all 15 vats keys, and you'll still have a billion random strays. http://www.autotechs.com/items/item1300.htm you have enough stuff to make 5 of these and then some, so it might be worth making a couple bucks :orly:
