Hello, my name is gary and this is my first post/thread on epfba! In this thread im going to chronicle the rebuild of my 1974 pontiac 455 and the actual swap into an early 80's t/a or iroc. I have not decided what car to choose but i will keep everyone posted when I do decide on which one. As of now i have a th400 tranny and thats what i plan on using with the 455. I WILL SHOW PLENTY OF PICS!!! I will also show the mods needed such as what tyes of headers and manifolds will fit, the types of engine mounts and the types of transmission mounts needed for this type of project.

Hey, i noticed that when i tried to upload the pics that the max size is 256 KiB. Is there any way i can still post the pics? Cause all of my pics are bigger than 256.

You could resize your pictures to be more web-friendly, but even easier than that... ;)
1) Go here - http://www.tinypic.com/
2) Browse and upload your file
3) Click in the box under the words "IMG code for Forums & Message Boards"(This will copy the information to your clipboard)
4) Come back over here and paste the [img] code text.
5) Preto! :)

I'm really looking forward to pictures! A BBC in a 3rd gen is pretty bad ass.

it's not a BBC (big block chevy) it's a pontiac motor. :) a pontiac 455 and a chevy 454 share virtually no components. kind of like even though an LS1 and an sbc 350 are both 5.7 liters, but they share nothing either. :)
good luck on that swap. I've heard of people doing it once or twice, but no one that i'm aware of makes over the counter exhaust manifolds, motor mounts, etc. i'd expect it to be a LOT more difficult than doing a BBC swap, LSX, LT1, or turbo buick swap. I also know a TH400 in a third gen is possible, but you might need to do some light tunnel surgery, especially depending on what torque arm setup you're running.

Yeah yeah, i was too lazy to type big block. Haha.
As for the exhaust, I think Dynomax may make a BB/3rd gen setup. I remember seeing something in the catalog. Something like this - http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku (http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=WLK-85135&N=700+4294923429+4294839039+4294918680+4294799365+ 4294907050+4294871271+4294908216+4294908198+115&autoview=sku)
I know it's for for a Pontiac big block, but maybe if you contact the company they have something specifically for your needs.

Where do you go to school? My name is also Gary, and I hope your car makes it to some meets when it's done.

Sounds like you have quite a project on your hands... Finding exhaust manifolds for a swap might be pretty hard for the old pontiac. You might be able to use early ram air long branch manifolds though. They flow very well too...
What have you done with the 455 so far? I have a 71 455 sitting in the corner I'm planning on using to swap out the 326 in the old bird.
